You've never liked cartoons?! You're an awful person..

Granted Digimon, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh were all terrible anime regurgitated by 4Kids (first seasons kicked ass though (speaking from childhood memories)). Just because these were bad doesn't make every other anime crap. Good examples of anime are Ghost in the Shell (sci-fi action adventure.. deals with theories of existence quite a bit), Fruits Basket (cute, silly romance).. Look around! There's some really good stuff about.

I haven't read much Manga, but I enjoy reading it. It's faster paced than reading a standard novel.

It's not Japanese literature. It's not trying to imitate anything. They're just stories - graphic novels in a different style of drawing.
